Designs / Modeling
The BSST team has extensive experience developing computer models to aid in solving thermodynamic and heat transfer-related issues surrounding the design and analysis of thermoelectric systems. Relying on the carefully validated models of the core engine of BSST’s thermoelectric designs, many of BSST’s models and designs have been customized for a client or partner’s specific application. Modeling results and sometimes the tools themselves are shared with our customers.
Our models have been rigorously developed and validated to predict device performance. For example, our initial code for liquid – liquid TE heat exchangers for heating and cooling applications was validated for COP and three other variables to within 7% for a wide range of currents and temperature differences as shown below.
The ability to simulate device performance so precisely greatly enhances our design process, cutting design iterations down to a minimum. Models have been constructed and validated for liquid – air and air – solid TE heat exchangers in addition to the liquid – liquid TE heat exchanger described above. We are also in the process of validating models for power generation devices.
Modeling abilities include both steady state and transient analysis. Advanced multi-parameter optimization tools coupled with parametric sensitivity studies have been extensively utilized to aid in finding optimal designs.
