High Power Density
BSST has designed and fabricated a number of prototypes that utilize 1/7 to 1/25 as much thermoelectric material as traditional thermoelectric designs. Shown at right is a conventional module and two high power density pellets. The two pellets, having a combined weight of 0.3 grams, have the same power output as the entire module containing 7.3 grams of thermoelectric pellets. In addition to using much less material these designs interface better with high power-density electronics or heat sources, allow higher current operation, allow electrical circuit and thermal path redundancy, and offer substantial opportunities for cost reduction in the overall system design.
