BSST is able to provide innovative and powerful thermal management
solutions for problems not well handled by other technologies or
by standard thermoelectrics. Through extensive R&D and experience,
BSST has developed a breakthrough advance in TE technology. Multiple
key patents related to this technology have been issued or allowed.
Compared to standard TE technology, this breakthrough:
• Provides double the efficiency
• Nearly doubles the maximum
change in temperature achievable
• Reduces weight, size
and cost
• Enables demisting and
decontamination
• Benefits from emerging
higher power density materials
BSST achieves this performance through the application of its proprietary
thermodynamic cycle for thermoelectrics. The BSST cycle is made
possible by the use of techniques developed through substantial
R&D by BSST and covered by United States and international patents.
Discussion of the BSST cycle and its underlying methodologies can
be found in the Technical Papers
section of this website.
PERFORMANCE COMPARED TO STANDARD THERMOELECTRICS
BSST's technology has a clear and very substantial performance
advantage over today's standard thermoelectrics, based on the BSST
cycle. However, significant R&D is underway with the objective
of significantly advancing the capability of thermoelectric materials.
While the results of these efforts have not yet emerged, current
progress is seen as very promising. BSST's technology advances are
highly compatible with the materials performance improvements expected.
As a result, BSST's performance advantage over standard thermoelectrics
will continue, and is likely to become greater as continuing material
improvements are commercialized. This performance advantage trend
is characterized in the graph below. This graph compares current
and projected Coefficients of Performance of BSST versus standard
thermoelectrics as the level of thermoelectric capability (ZT) of
relevant materials improves. For a larger view of this graph, click

EXPANDED CAPABILITY LEADS TO ADDITIONAL APPLICATIONS
As projected advances in thermoelectric materials emerge in the
commercial market, significant applications are likely to become
enabled, or to have their performance, economics, and ability to
be deployed greatly improved. When BSST's cycle is applied in conjunction
with these advances, the range of applications enabled and advanced
is even greater, as indicated below. For a larger view of this chart,

OUTLOOK
Similarly to the way that electronics have replaced
mechanical control sensing and display systems, there is now the
prospect that solid-state thermoelectric systems will find favor
over present mechanical cooling, heating and temperature control
systems. BSST intends to be a leader in facilitating this transition
through continued advancement of and intelligent deployment of its
technology.
